GRO News September 2012 Issue #1

September is shaping up to be an exciting month for The GRO Project!

On the 11th we had a full volunteer meeting to discuss and plan the next steps for GRO. On this day we were also visited by Perth’s Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and Local Member for Perth John Hyde, for a tour of the GRO rooms and a photo shoot. This was a great opportunity to wear our new Team GRO shirts and display the freshly branded cargo bike.

Also on the 11th, we were fortunate to receive a visit from Elizabeth at RTR FM. Elizabeth recorded a 20 minute special feature podcast on The GRO Project which will feature later this month on Perth’s only environmental program “Understorey”. Project manager Michael Forte and GRO Volunteers Sean, Beau, Anita, Steve and Jamie were thrilled to participate in the interview.

In the GRO rooms a new mister has been installed which works using sound waves and significantly reduces troublesome puddling. For liquid culture, we request donations from the public of 1 litre glass jars with metal lids and wide mouths. Please drop your jars into Perth City Farm, mentioning that they are for The GRO Project.

Grounds collection started again today and we are pleased to announce that GRO is now collecting coffee grounds from four local cafes. Thank you Perth City Farm Cafe and Toast Cafe for getting on board as new participants.

The GRO project is looking for a new volunteer to collect coffee grounds using a cargo bike on FRIDAYS each week. Please contact Michael if you’re interested: michael.forte@perthcityfarm.org.au

Finally, mushrooms are not yet available for purchase at Perth City Farm. It won’t be long though, so please keep a watchful eye on GRO News and the PCF facebook page for announcements.
