School Tours
Perth City Farm provides hands-on learning opportunities for students of all ages and abilities to participate in and understand all aspects of the urban food cycle, from: farm to fork, seed to soil, cooking to compost and beyond.
Here are some example tours, but we offer tours for all ages (including adults), so please call us or fill in the form below to make an enquiry about any type of tour.
Workshops & Tours
First Bite (ages 4-10)
1.5 – 2 hours – $10 per student
This tour focuses on tactile exploration and basic concepts of farming, nutrition and sustainability and includes:
• Walk around farm tour – spot and name the many vegetables and learn how they are used
• Watch and learn all about our chooks
• Dig for worms in our worm farm and learn of their many wonders
• Feed aquaponic fish and learn how the acquaponics system works
Dig In (ages 10+)
1.5 – 2 hours – $10 per student
Designed for older children and young adults, this tour explores sustainable urban agriculture at its best. Through the many active systems we have on site, students learn about:
• Irrigation, composting, water recycling and the importance of healthy soil
• Aquaponic systems: how they work and why they are important
• Chickens and what they do on a farm – it’s more than just lay eggs!
• Worms and the sophisticated role they play in our ecology
• Compost: what goes in and what comes out!
All workshops and tours are filled with fun activities at our community urban farm. It is recommended for students to wear hats, closed-in shoes and appropriate clothing to participate in farming activities. Number of students: Minimum 20.
Perth City Farm is right next to Claisebrook train station and we encourage the use of public transport to visit us.
