City Greening Volunteers

Join our team of wonderful volunteers and meet new people, learn great skills and give back to the community. As a volunteer, you will always be expected to demonstrate the values of respect, non-judgment, compassion and kindness in all interactions with volunteers and staff of Perth City Farm, other contractors working on site and members of the public.

We are unfortunately not able to support volunteers under the age of 18.

City greening gardener

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Perth CBD.
  • Become part of our City Greening team at the QV1 Community Garden located on the rooftop of the QV1 carpark on Murray Street.
  • Ideally volunteers commit to at least a three hour time slot
  • This position requires good motor skills, attention to detail and the ability to pick up new tasks easily
  • Suited to someone who is able to complete medium manual handling and who is able to self-manage and work within a team
  • Main duties:
    • Planting plants and seedlings
    • Pruning plants and fruit trees
    • Managing pests and diseases organically
    • Fertilising plants and improving soils
    • Weeding and general garden and site maintenance
  • This role requires a person with reasonable physical strength, good dexterity and attention to detail
  • You will be working outside in a range of weather conditions

 

Farm Volunteer

  •  Wednesdays and Fridays at Perth City Farm.
  • Join our volunteer team who work in the farm to produce vegetables and herbs for sale at our Saturday markets, or in our soil centre to creating amazing, nutrient-rich soil!
  • This position requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and and the ability to pick up new tasks easily
  • Suited to someone who is able to complete medium manual handling and who is able to self-manage and work within a team
  • General duties:
    • Preparing market garden and other beds under the guidance of the farm manager
    • Keeping records of plantings and soil amendments
    • Learning to identify seeds and plants and follow the farm manager’s instructions for care of different varieties and organisation within the market garden and farm generally
    • Work in a collaborative positive manner with other team members and volunteers for optimum outcome for Perth City Farm.
  • This role requires a person with reasonable physical strength and high level dexterity and attention to detail
  • You will be required to deal with people of various backgrounds and abilities on a day-to day basis

 

FARMER’S MARKET VOLUNTEER

  • Saturday mornings at Perth City Farm.
  • Enjoy a beautiful Saturday morning at the farm and assist with the set-up or packdown and maintenance of a vibrant Perth City Farm Stall
  • Ideally volunteers would commit to a minimum time commitment of one month.
  • This position requires good motor skills, attention to detail and the ability to pick up new tasks easily
  • Suited to someone who is able to complete medium manual handling
  • General duties:
    • Contribute to the set up or pack down of the Perth City Farm Stall
    • Creatively display and restock the fresh and general produce
    • Ensure the stall looks clean and tidy
    • Communicate with visitors, staff and fellow volunteers in a positive and inclusive manner
    • Work collaboratively as part of a team
  • This role requires a person with excellent verbal communication skills and a creative flair
  • We require reasonable physical strength as the ability to lift fresh produce bags (up to 15kg) is essential
  • You will be required to deal with people of various backgrounds and abilities
  • ***We’d love to know if you have skills an experience with marketing and social media!

  3. Our Volunteer Coordinator will get back to you within five working days and invite you to an induction session
  4. You will attend the induction session and get started as a new volunteer.
