Preserving Pals
February 2 @ 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm AWST
An event every week that begins at 2:30 pm on Friday, repeating until May 31, 2024
Preserving Pals at Perth City Farm
Our group meets on most Fridays to process the produce grown on the farm. Experimenting with a range of recipes and cooking methods, our group makes anything from marmalade to kimchi.
It’s a laid-back atmosphere, and lasts several hours, so feel free to drop by and offer a hand for a short amount of time if that’s all you can give.
The focus of the group is to learn old preserving methods and meet other people who care about fostering community as an antidote to climate change. We are Perth preserving pals, and also earth preserving pals! The group is also space to meet and talk about caring for the earth, climate positive action and living sustainably.
Session Outline
2:30pm – 4:30pm: This is when we pick, peel and process our harvest. We’ll wash the produce, measure ingredients, and then get it cooking.
4:30pm – 5:00pm: A food break for anyone staying for both sessions.
5:00pm – 7:00pm: We sterilise the jars and chat while the jam boils. We’ll pour the finished jam into jars and then name and date them. After this is gentle cleaning up, like washing dishes, sweeping and wiping benches.
We generally don’t take our products home. Instead they will be sold at the City Farm markets, with all proceeds going back to the wonderful City Farm team who make our little pocket of permaculture paradise possible.
