We are sad to let you know that Thom Scott passed away on Monday 18 December 2023.
Thom has been a Father to Perth City Farm and its community since he came here in 1996.
Thom was a gentle, kind and generous man who lived a life of great service.
Thom made some big contributions- without him neither Perth City Farm or Trillion Trees would probably still exist as organisations and he’s worked, volunteered for and sat in governance positions at both for long periods.
Thom was at his most magic one on one though, and his countless smaller contributions have helped to create the values base of our community Farm.
Thom embodied the statement of ‘respect, non-judgement and compassion’ and lived that at the Farm every day. Thom would start up a conversation with anyone and give them his full attention and lots of time. He went out of his way to help people that most would look away from or be scared of.
Thom taught us how to approach strangers with an open, loving heart. An exceptional gift.
He and Rosanne were always the last to leave any event here, leaving the ‘young ones’ in the dust when it came to stamina! Much of our Farm was created with Thom’s muscles and many of our trees were rescued from elsewhere and planted by him.
Thom will always be with us here in the material fabric of the Farm, and the intangible spirit of the place. The trees he planted and cared for are those we get to sit under now and share with all kinds of other creatures.
We will remember and miss Thom’s wonderful sense of humour and constant curiosity about the world.
Recently Thom had been receiving treatment for cancer. On his last day earthside he was joined by friends under the trees at Bibra Lake and was enveloped in love and care from people who knew him well. We take comfort knowing this energy was with him as he moved on to whatever is next.
Please send all your love to Thom’s wife Rosanne and his family and friends.
We’re processing the news and reflecting on what we’ve learnt from Thom about living a meaningful life that makes the world a better place.
